One of the things I really enjoy doing is making bread. I make at least a half dozen loaves a week and it's been over a year since I've bought a loaf in the grocery store! I try to stick with
100% whole wheat because I know it's much healthier for my family than white but I'm game to try other recipes. Quite awhile ago, while searching for recipes, I happen to hit on a great blog called
"A Year in Bread, 3 bakers, 12 months, 36 recipes." Well they are having their first contest, and you can enter just by sending an email to them. But if you like a challenge they have a second way to enter their contest, and that is to come up with a story, poem, song, etc. about making bread. I'm not a poet, I'll admit that, but I came up with this:
It all started July oh six
I needed to help my family get a healthy fix.
Whole wheat bread was first on my list
So I ordered up a Bosch, quick, quick.
My Bosch arrived in the post
The stainless steel bowl I loved the most.
I added my flour, yeast, and more.
And promptly made a stop for the door!
It was heavy bread I have to admit
My family cried what in the heck!?
I told them to eat it and suffer through
Fingers crossed I’d get better, I just knew.
So I started surfing online
And came across a wonderful blog!
“A Year in Bread,” with recipes galore!
I knew I had to try ONE, TWO or MORE!
There’s Susan, Beth, and Kevin
And I think they are all sent from Heaven
Even if they all can’t agree, nor have the power,
On the weight, of one cup of flour :)
Alright quit groaning, I said I wasn't a poet! To enter and win a "yet to be released" signed copy of Daniel Leader's new book,
Local Breads: Sourdough and Whole-Grain Recipes from Europe's Best Artisan Bakers, just head on over to
"A Year in Bread." And remember you don't need to come up with anything to enter the random part of their draw!
