DVD Scratch Remover? It Works!

Two weeks ago Jevan "put away" two DVD games for the wii console. Believe me we hunted and tore this house apart but no such luck finding them. Last night I went to pop a DVD movie into a player and he thought I was going to use another player we have that is seldom used. The door slides open and not only were the two game DVDs there but a Dora the Explorer dvd as well, it is not a multi-player drive, so much for that dvd player! But the good news is the game discs are found, right? Well you would think so, until you look at Paper Mario, scratched to heck! Scratches I can feel with my fingernail! The wii just laughs at me and says "you've got to be kidding?" when I insert the disc. I even washed and dried it hoping that would help. Nope. Today I went searching and was reminded about the toothpaste trick. Now, I've never tried this, ever. But I thought "what have I got to lose?" These games are around 60 dollars a piece and I didn't want to just toss it without trying something! I put a bit of Sensodyne toothpaste on it and rubbed only from the center of the disc to the outside, fairly hard with no water. I did this all the way around, then rinsed, and dried exceptionally well with one of those lint free clothes. And the verdict is..... it's works! Not sure for how long or even if the game will freeze in certain parts but at least it works for now.

This is the exact toothpaste I used:

I will not be held responsible for your discs so please do this with caution and only as a last resort! I can even send Jevan over to your house if you don't have any scratched discs handy and you're dying to try it :)

thats a good tip!Can you copy the disc now it is less scratched?
I dont have a wii so i dont even know if it is possible to copy them but at least it would keep the original going for longer.

Unfortunately you cannot copy these disks... well you can but you need a certain brand dvd reader as well as your wii box modded. A step I'm not willing to take. It's too bad the makers don't think of this (or maybe they do and just want us to keep buying over and over).

Isn't toothpaste -- abrasive?! I've read that hitting the shiney side with Pledge Furniture Polish and a soft rag will fill in the scratch, thus making it possible for the laser to read to info again.

Yes toothpaste is abrasive but that's probably what makes it work. It's a very fine abrasive though. And as I said use it as a last resort :)

I have the same toothpaste, but did I recycle and/or throw out all my scratched discs?

Does this work only for Wii games? I just bought 2 used gamecube games, and they both are just scratched up very badly!

Hi fonziekj52
This probably works for any discs although I've only tried the Wii one. But I would imagine discs are all made the same so I'm sure it would work on the gamecube discs.
