First Charted Hat

I created a chart and made a hat this morning, and I think it turned out pretty good! I've never created a chart or followed one for that matter. Okay I admit; it was only two lines long but what the heck, maybe it will lead to bigger things :) I used the cross stitch program PC Stitch Pro. I did ten rows just so I didn't have to keep resetting my counter from 1 to 2. On Jevan's hat (he's turning 3 in two months but is pretty big for his age) I did about 12 rows for the brim and then 18 rows of the pattern, and one last row was done with all blue. All of it was e-wrapped with two strands of each colour, so you're using 4 balls in total.

Hat Chart
Here's what my chart looked like (I redid it with MS Excel), click the chart for a bigger view. Each square represents one peg on the green Knifty Knitter, 36 pegs. Following the chart the first row was wrapped peg 3 with white, peg 6, peg 9, and so on. Then take the blue and wrap pegs 1&2, 4&5, 7&8, and so on. Knit over. For the 2nd row; white is on peg 1, peg 4, peg 7, and so on. Blue was wrapped on pegs 2&3, 5&6, 8&9, and so on. Yaaah it's going to be fun making hats again, it was getting a bit boring so I hadn't made one in awhile :)

Kansas, you are a busy, busy lady. Your name reminds me of my father who passed in 2000...he was born and raised there. Love your idea of the charted hat. Thanks so much for sharing. Also love the idea of making the seed strips...that was a light bulb going off for me. =)
And I also have a grandson who just turned 4 and stands around 3'6" and weighs close to 50 pounds, so I know about big babies!! Lucky you to get an infinity loom for your birthday!
Have a blessed week and keep up the great work.

okay what do you do with the yarn when going from peg one to peg four? Carry it behind? Doesn't that get in the way of the yarn that gets wrapped over pegs two and three? (just making up an example...)

Erin, yes you just carry it behind, it doesn't really get in the way. I like to do the longest ones first, then the shorter ones. That's why I did the white first and then the blue. I wouldn't go much farther than just a few pegs as the yarn gets too long. I tried it the other day and instead of wrapping one colour and then the next, I was wrapping each peg as I went along sort of twisting the yarn in behind, it worked okay but what a tangled mess at the skeins!
