I have a childhood girlfriend that seldom comes to visit (you know who you are) and whenever she arrives or departs I have to stand in the driveway. The reason: she is deathly afraid of chickens! Not just roosters but all chickens... can you believe that? I have to herd up all my chickens while she makes a quick dash for the door. I did not know this about her when we were kids, we started kindergarten together and practically were inseparable from then on. I thought I knew most everything about her there is to know, but I guess, even though we
think we know someone, there's just some stuff we learn years later. She was out a couple of years ago and while we were sitting at my kitchen table looking over old pictures I heard a
"thump, thump," I glanced over and heaven forbid a chicken had snuck in the house! Well she lost it, I could see the panic in her eyes, you would have thought a giant spider had scurried across the floor! I rounded up the chicken and sent her out the door but I'm pretty sure that was the last time my girlfriend was out. It's not uncommon for the kids to leave the door open and in short order find several chickens wandering through my kitchen. Don't get me wrong, I love my chickens but they do belong outside!
So in honour of all the people who are afraid of chickens here's a few pictures, at least you can look and there's no fear of them leaping out of your computer or possibly ending up in your kitchen, well "
alive" anyway :)
This is Goofy, yes he
looks mean but every morning he stands tall over his "girls" patiently waiting to eat the hen scratch from my hand.

I have yet to name the little blonde chick, any suggestions? And ya'll know "Bugs."
UPDATE: Sydney has decided on "Pippi."

Chickens wouldn't bother me, I don't think, but rodents?! I'll run you over getting away from them! Chickens in the Kitchen -- that's precious!
My favorite is Goofy. He looks like he is looking right at you. :)
Ahhh! I love your chickens! I also love the idea of a chicken visiting my kitchen (but only for a few minutes)! =)
They both look so serious.
And, no, chickens in the kitchen probably isn't precious ... especially if you're trying to cook something. My FIL has chickens in his back yard (he wishes he were a farmer, we're pretty sure). They can be mean, mean. I wouldn't want them thinking the kitchen was their territory.
I can't imagine anyone ever eating chicken again after seeing these
little cuties. They are adorable.
Oh, my. If you didn't eat chickens, though, you might have to eat tofu! ;)
Blondie!
