Did I Shave My Legs For This?

Do you all remember that song by Deana Carter? I couldn't help but think of it tonight when I pulled open the dryer door. Maybe I better backtrack a bit... about six months ago I shaved my legs (yes seriously it was six months ago or I think it was at least that long ago). At that time I had a very bad reaction from one of those fancy razors with the soap built around it, oh Lordy the itching darn near drove me crazy! So I said to Hubby, "do you care if I shave my legs?"

He mumbled something but to me it was pretty close to "huh?"

I took that to mean "No honey I don't care."

So I stopped, yup cold turkey, huck the razors, grow mink nylons, stopped. Everything has been great... until tonight when I opened the dryer door. It felt like the hair on my legs was being sucked into the dryer! Obviously static cling, but one knows it's getting bad when static cling has jumped to one's legs. So I'm at a dilemma here, I have to find something that will work before I get to the length of braiding but not drive me to madness with itching. Electric razor? Neat? (Do they still make that stuff?) Don't even suggest that "rip out by the root device" which I can't even remember what it was called (Epilady I think?). I tried that back in my teen years and went six weeks with one very hairless leg and wouldn't touch the other one. I still shudder at the pain, seriously there is no way women invent these things! Anyway I'm getting off track here... yes it's something that no one wants to talk about and some of my readers will probably wonder why on earth have I posted such a thing? Well what better way to get real life advice than to ask a million readers (okay maybe I don't have quite a million but I'm working on it (wink)).

I put on my winter coat too. Bill loves for me to shave my legs, but it doesn't happen until about May. I use a razor. But they still do make that Neat stuff. BUt there has be be at least one razor that doesn't have goo on it! Isn't there?

Static legs! This is truly a dilemma! I'd go electric, were I you. It shames me to admit it (since there are likely things specifically FOR women on the market that would do a better job) but I er, steal a shaving *someone's* device when I need a shave. I figure if the three rotating heads on the face trimmer are supposed to give a man an appropriately manly jaw, it ought to work just as well on me.

(I'm a sadist... I want to try an Epilady at least once... I'm astounded that you managed a full leg.)

I like using the gillette mach 3, the one with three blades. They make a women's version but this way me and my husband can split a package of replacement blades. Also, use hair conditioner as your shaving cream. It helps keep away the red itchy bumps. I got this advice from a dancer, and they should know right?

I'm with you, Kansas!
They still make Neet/Nair/whatever. It's not as bad as they were in the olden days.
If you shave, do so *after* you bathe. The skin will be supple, the hair less resistant. I use either lady's shave cream or bath gel.
Oh, and the EpiLady? I'm fairly certain they were used as torture devices long before they passed them off to us gals. How else can you explain them?

Well Kansas I really didn't know it was a torture device. :) Seems to me that was a present I bought you in your past. Some gift eh! I am one of the lucky ones no hair; legs or under arms. Different but happy to be. Who am I? :)

The only reason I managed to do a full leg is once you start and the pain hits the leg goes numb, but only if you do small "bites" at a time, don't think you could ever run the thing up and down in long stretches... yikes! But, hey, if you say your a "sadist" by all means go for it :) LOL My Hubby says a person has to be either tough or stupid to use the thing... men!

You could try a men's razor. They are for face skin and may be more sensitive. When we shaved my sons head (his request) he would get itchy bumps if we did it too often so we would only do it once a week. We used Mugs shaving soap and a fancy razor with detachable ends (which he now uses for his face). I think we put aloe vera gel on sometimes also, after shaving. The last year his head was shaved (10 years) he didn't have a problem.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I think I'm going to buy an electric shaver and only shave after a bath/shower. But until I get to the city I will try Hubby's disposables with hair conditioner :)

Static legs! You gotta love them! Besides getting rid of the dryer I don't have the solution, but I am going to try the hair conditioner one, using my Gilette lady razor thingy.
(Every time someones says something nice about my full head of hair I secretly think: "hah, wait till you see the rest...") LOL!

Okay, I've stopped laughing long enough to post. I shave almost everywhere except for my arms, head, eyebrows, you get the picture, I don't like body hair. I have rosecea on my face and have use a ton of cremes, soaps and so on. For my legs and other body parts, I use the Fusion three blade razon that is made for a man's face. I also use shave creme, much like conditioner to soften the hair and not pull on the skin. How often you may ask, about twice a week. Then I follow this routine by sathering myself in really good body lotion Eucerin , and Cetaphil both are lotions for sensitve skin and are rich and creamy. Trust me once you get into the habit you won't mind, and if you get good products you'll be happy and not itchy. Plus hubby would probably be really freaked out and think you were trying out for the Victoria's Secret catalog. Always keep them guessing, it's such fun. Well now that you have my personal grooming habits for the world to see I hope it helps you and your sasquash looking legs hehehe :)
