Paper Bag Potting

Jackie, from over at One Thread Two Thread, is a genius! I've been pondering my dilemma about the out-growing luffa's and didn't know what to do. I wanted them in something biodegradable but what? Jackie emailed me and suggested lining pots with newspapers. That way their roots wouldn't be disturbed and, when the time came, wouldn't mind the transplant. Excellent idea! But the thought of lining a dozen pots, just right, with newspaper was overwhelming (okay I was being lazy) so I thought there has to be another way. Eureka! Those brown paper lunch bags I bought for cd/dvd holders would work! I measured the pots, cut the excess off the top of the bags and wala, perfect :)
I'm sure the bags will survive for awhile and hopefully will still be somewhat intact when planting comes.
Finger's crossed these guys tone down a bit because they won't be planted outside until May!
This would work with anything that out-grows it's pot. I've been holding off on planting my tomatoes and peppers but I think I'll do it now :)

Good idea to use the paper bags. For future if you don't have the bags handy from another project, coffee filters also work well, depending on the size of pot. Those look like pretty big pots. And happy plants.

What a great idea!

Thanks for the tip about the wood crayons for my scratched table top. I'm going to look around and see if I can find them.

I really like this idea for plants. I have lots of paper bags that I've been wondering what to do with. Hopefully my plants will look as happy as yours.

Hi Wendy
My "secret" ingredient is Schultz's plant food, I use it on all my plants! It's liquid and you just put an eye dropper full into a quart of water, my plants love it :)

If all those plants make to the garden and have [?#} sponges, you could have a cash crop here! Hugs, Louise Z

I love your belief that you had to line the pots "just right" I think that I sort of made a roll that is about the size of the pot and sort of squash the bottom bit. I really like your paper bag idea though! I think that I will try that this year.

That's a wonderful idea.

Mine are going into the ground here soon (just need to find the time.) It's been really warm here and it's time for most of my stuff to get in the ground.

I love the paper bag idea.
