Appliance Gods Strike Again

I never did tell you all that I ended up buying a new dishwasher. But wait, I had to! After getting the little bitty part I needed, and installing it, the dishwasher was still "broken." It turned out I needed another part. Oh not a big part, I thought at first, just the chopper which attaches to the motor. No big deal right? Wrong. That part only comes with the motor! So for $179 plus shipping, and that itty bitty other $12 part cost more to ship than the part itself!, what was the chopper/motor going to cost? I'm thinking it would have been roughly over 250 dollars in total... sigh... and I would still have a door that leaked because the parts have nothing to do with the bent door. I had the seal replaced a few years ago but that didn't help, so I always kept 5 popsicle sticks stuck between the door and the counter to hold the door tightly shut, whatever works right? So rather than throw good money after bad I broke down and bought a new dishwasher. I have a few gripes about the new one, it's smaller (I measured the racks), the silverware basket is a pain, and it was priced out of this world! But it cleans, and it cleans well. It is the quietest dishwasher I've never heard; so quiet there is a red light which shines on the floor so you know it's running, seriously you can put your head right down to the door and not hear it at all! It's a Bosch dishwasher and I hope to have it a long, long, looooong time!

Now do you want to hear about my Kenmore washing machine? Well I'm telling anyway :) Hubby did a load of laundry (only his own but that's another story) on Wednesday night. I walk by the washer on Friday morning, yes two days later and it's my birthday, and bump the door. It's a front load washer and the drum is filled to the brim with water, that water is now cascading like a waterfall out the front! The drawer underneath is filled, water has been seeping behind into the bathroom, it's also under the furnace and it making it's way to the hall. The thing hasn't even been on! Ever have one of those "I'm going to sit down and cry moments?" Well it was one of those moments, all I could think was "Happy flippin' Birthday!" There is one spark of hope through my tears; not more than two weeks ago I renewed the extended warranty from Sears, yaaaah (said with not a whole lot of enthusiasm). I actually received the statement about a half hour after discovering the disaster. But I've dealt with Sears before and I'm really nervous. Another washer I had, a Maytag, broke down the week Jevan was born and I went two months, yes two months! without a washer. It really got to the point where I wanted to rip the Sears man in half, and as far as the "customer support" people, WELL... calm down, breathe... Okay much better. They finally bought me out and I purchased the washer I have now. But this isn't the first time it's broke. I had major repair work done to it just a few years ago. Sears now subcontracts their repairs out and this repair guy was nice enough at the time (felt sorry for me) to bring me a replacement for a month, but I think it's time this lemon went back, back to the far reaches of the earth where no man/woman will ever get their hands on it.

PS. Don't laugh at the picture, I actually used one of those wringer washers when my oldest (24) was a baby! At least it kept going, and going, and going.....

Sometimes I even feel sorry for the poor repairman!

Happy Belated Birthday! I hope Sears sends you a shiny new washing machine as a present and doesn't delay too long!

Good luck with that! Thankfully I have a hubbie that likes to fix things (although I do go for months with some little thing wrong-like having to restart the dryer every 5 minutes by rotating the drum- but I'm not bitter- did I mention that the dryer is in an unheated back shed and that if I didn't restart it the laundry would freeze solid- but really, I'm not bitter) In any case he has saved both the washing machine and the dryer from the landfill, and for that I am truly thankful.

Oh Kansas...=) Hugs to you - it is one thing after another, isn't it?? But...maybe think of it this way: maybe very soon everything will be replaced with new stuff and you will have a few years of appliance peace! =)

Glad you got a new dishwasher. I have heard excellent things about Bosch Appliances and the downfall of the price.

Sorry to hear of your washer and the water everywhere. Not much fun for your birthday.

Kansas - I have to tell you...we have been putting off and putting off buying a new washer/dryer. Yesterday I was sweeping around the washer and I noticed some dampness, but I didn't really think too much of it. Last night my hubby decided to wash some towels. When he went down to put the towels in the dryer, he noticed the rug in front of the washer was SOAKED. Guess what?? Our washer is leaking, too! UGH!!! I knew it was going to go, but I was hoping it would just wait a few more months until we had the money saved up!! Dang it! So, I'm feeling your appliance woes right now...=) Our dryer is currently being held together with duct tape - I can live with that as long as it keeps working! =)
