Lucky to be alive

I think only but for the grace of God Dallas survived this. If you're a regular reader you know about the "Big Slide." It's a narrow stretch of Highway 12 you drive through on the way out to my place.

Dallas called this morning and asked me if I needed anything because she was coming out. When she opened the door half an hour later the first thing she said was "Here's something for you to blog" and then she burst into tears. There were shards of glass on her purse and I pretty well knew what happened before she said anything more.

Here's the windshield of her car. The rock bounced right off the windshield!

A picture from the inside. The rearview mirror has been knocked to the floor.

And this is glass on her driver's seat and console.

There's even glass on some clothes in a laundry basket in the back seat! She told me that glass was flying everywhere, how she managed to keep the car on the road is nothing short of a miracle. When oh when is the government going to fix this!? My daughter and my future grandchild could have been killed today! It makes my blood boil when I hear all about the road construction going on in BC just to add more lanes, or straighten the highway out... how about a deadly stretch of road that when each time you drive through it you risked being killed from falling rock?

Oh Kansas..I'm so glad that Dally is alright. I agree with you that something needs to be done. Maybe you can get some of the politicians to drive thru there on the way to 2010...Pat

Oh, WOW. Reminds me of the words to a song "near misses all around me, accidents unknown, and I never see with human eyes the hands that lead me home." I REALLY hope they fix that slide. Good grief.

Whao.. I have never commented before.. but.. this!!.. I am so glad it ended well.. besides damage to a car.. no one was hurt!!.. Timing is everything.. Maybe you can send these pictures to the Road people.. It is a shame that it takes something like this to get attention, but maybe it will help..
.. I'm sure you thought of that already!!.
.. good luck!!

PS.. speaking from experience.. glass is very hard to clean up.. it takes forever and then you will find some when you least expect it..

Oh, that looks terrible! I'm glad Dallas was ok (besides being shocked! I would've driven off the road!)!! And about my son wanting to run away to his Nana's house--my mom is so wonderful even I want to run away to her house! :) And we'd make banana bread til the cows came home! :)

Oh my, your daughter and future grandchild are very lucky!!! How terrifying for them!!! I get to drive threw there next month thanks to my hubby's curiosity. I'm not looking forward to it at all. Even though I don't live up there anymore every time I hear of announcments of road improvements I am always hoping that area is #1 on the list. Or even on the list! A proper fix should have been made years ago! Glad your daughter is alright.

That is horrible!!! I'm so thankful that Dallas and baby are ok!! Send pictures to the local paper - I know it has been going on for a very long time, but I just don't understand why they don't do something about it.

Holy poo! I'm glad that Dallas is alright. I also hope that they fix the road. Maybe you should contact the CBC and tell them your story. SOmetimes press like that will force the government to act when pleading won't do a thing.

I hope you send the photos to a newspaper. All our tax dollars are going to the olympics for the highway to Whistler.ab

Wow. I bet that scared the peepee out of her. That is one huge rock. Yeah, I'd be sending the bill to your local road officials. And the pictures. I'd be sending a big ol' letter.
Dang!!

Oh, that is so scary. I am glad she is okay and it wasn't worse. It is wonderful she kept the car on the road and made it to you safely. I hope her nerves are recovering too.
