Shocking news

Sad but shocking. The other day I felt like I was in a movie. The kind of movie where one is innocently working away and the camera pans to the background and there lies the dead body. I was in the chicken coop collecting eggs when I got to the far box. I briefly thought "Hmmm where's Baby Banty?" Her eggs were there but where the heck was she? I figured she had gone outside to quickly eat and stretch her legs. I turned around and "GASP!" There she was lying on the floor near the run door... dead. I felt as if the Twilight Zone music would start up any minute. There was no marks on her, no feather out of place. She hadn't been acting sick and had even started to set on eggs again after raising Cleopatra. She's really not that old, her Mama is still alive along with her brother Sammy, maybe heart attack? I don't know, and probably never will, just one of those things I guess.
Goodbye good friend, she was a great Mama and one of the first banty chicks I had in our coop.

I am sorry to hear about your chicken. I know how much you care for them (I too love my chicks.) I hope the rest of yours are ok.

I have been scared to find my goats in the same way. Here we have a REALLY big problem with worms (not that we over graze anything but it never gets cold enough to kill much here.)

I have been told by many people that your goat can be just fine one day and gone the next. I am always checking eye lids here to make sure I don't need to worm (I am also learning to do fecal counts- I know it's sick but it needs done here. When in Rome I guess.)

That is very sad. We lost one chicken this spring, just laying there dead. We have been fortunate with the rest. I have heard they can have a sudden heart attack and ours that died was the largest so I think it was putting on weight too fast because there was something wrong with it.
