Last week Sydney and I got up way too early and headed to Kamloops for the Science Fair at TRU. Her project was Rusty Nails in Liquids.

Setting up the first day.
It was the first time either one of us had been to the University and we really had a lot of fun. From her school (LES) there were five students with four science projects and just under 200 entries in total. Mrs O’Conner, Sydney’s principal, smiles at us in the picture below.

Because the Science Fair was a two day event Sydney and I spent the night at the Super 8 Motel. I headed up to check into the motel while Sydney went on a two hour tour of the University.
We hit an Italian restaurant for supper and then headed over to see Alice In Wonderland 3-D. I had to chuckle after the show when Sydney asked me if we had to give the 3-D glasses back?
The next day, back at the Science Fair, the University put on a “Magic Show” explaining it’s not really magic but science.

There were four categories; Merit (for participating), Gold, Silver, and Bronze. After the merit medals were called and we didn’t hear Sydney’s name, her and I looked at each other like “what the heck?”
We were both surprised when her name was called for Bronze! For her first time participating she had earned herself a bronze! Good job Sydney!! :)
All the students of School District 74 (Lytton, Lillooet, Clinton, Ashcroft, Cache Creek and I’m not sure how many more). The students from LES starting from Sydney and going to the right are; Sydney, Robyn, Kayla (behind Robyn), Cheyenne, and Edward.

Sydney has already started working on her next year’s assignment but the memory of this year, being her first, will last a lifetime I’m sure. :)

Oh, my word -- SCIENCE FAIRS! Such great memories -- and so much work for the parents -- although it looks like Syd actually did her own work. (Go, Mom!)
I'm really, REALLY impressed that Miss Thing placed HER FIRST TIME. WOW. Congratulations, Sydney Scientist!
I love that she's already working on next year's project. THAT'S the way it should be -- excitement that carries you through a whole year. That's awesome.

Congratulations Sydney!! Being a retired educator, I have assisted students with their projects and judged science fair projects from elementary through high school. After looking at the pictures, I'm extremely impressed with the quality of the projects I could see - both yours and the other students. I am very proud of you for winning a bronze metal! Awesome work!

Hi.... I found a blog that linked your Carrot Cake Jam recipe. In the recipe, bottled lemon juice is called for. Can it be fresh lemon juice, or is there something special about the bottled kind? Thanks!

Congrats Sydney! So cool!! I loved doing science fairs, I dont know that Chase did them quite like we got into them in Lillooet...
