Stewart the Peacock

Stewart has now moved up to our deck and likes to sit on the railing. He jumps around on the woodpile and tonight tried to jump from a shelf up to the roof! I think he's getting used to the dogs because he doesn't seem to be running away from them and is actually standing his ground to Mini. :)

I read an interesting article about peacocks yesterday. It turns out that Japanese and Canadian peacocks don't behave like those found in India and England. Traditionally peahens would choose the male with the greatest number of eye-spots on its tail. But now, those in Japan and Canada seem to only care that the male has more than about 180 or so - beyond that number, they decide on other factors.

Perhaps Stewart is one of those unlucky enough to not be up to the minimum, so is after your hens? ;)
