Cougar on the way to the River

Today we took our first trip of the season down to the river. In between our ranch and Watkinson's is where we turn down, we hadn't gone far when I spotted a cougar on the bank. Hubby and I jumped out to make sure it was dead, and not just injured, then let the kids out. This picture shows exactly how we found her, I'm standing above her up the hill a bit.

It looks as if she's only been dead a short time, and it looks like she was shot. Possibly she made it as far as she could and then expired, Hubby thinks she was dumped there but I don't think so. You should have seen Jevan and Sydney when Hubby hollered "ARRRRRRRGH!" The kids were bent down looking at the cougar so intently and practically peed themselves scrambling to get back to the truck, I'm sure they thought she had come back to life!! Poor kid's eyes were big as saucers :)

The girl has huge paws!

Hubby threw her into the back of the truck and brought her home, the dogs weren't too impressed with that! On the way back up the hill we met a couple of guys in their truck who are camping up the hill not far from where we found the cougar. We had to back down the hill a ways to let them pass and they stopped to chat. I told them about the cat in the back and wow I didn't expect such a reaction! After total disbelief they jumped out of their truck and both were amazed... I guess they're from the city and hadn't seen something like that before.

I have no idea what Hubby intends to do with it, he's talking of skinning it or having it stuffed, neither of which impresses me. I told him if he has it stuffed he can find a place in the shop for it 'cause there is no flippin' way it's going to be in this house... and I don't need a cougar skin hanging off my walls either, thank you very much :)

I have to admit that if I had been in the truck with the city slickers, I would have been awed too! A big cat around here is a fat house cat. There have been reports of sightings on large cats, but until the officials find "proof" it is all denied.
Maybe you'll get a new fur coat for Christmas?

Oh, dear, reminds me of my sister's last boyfriend... every single piece of road kill he tossed in the back of the truck. He skinned everything and cured pelts and he made a lot of money making walking sticks and dream catcher-y kinds of things that used animal parts. Gorgeous and expensive and lots of people like that... but the process of GETTING there is kind of ... a bit much for me. And for her, in the end!

Wow, that's pretty crazy! Bet your hubby scared the pee outta the kids, lol!
Let him have it stuffed and sell it. Those go for amazing amounts of money...
Very cool. You see the neatest stuff up there!

Way cool! I'd make her into a drum, myself. It really would be a shame to let her go to waste.

I just LOVE your pictures. So clear and exciting. WOW you got a REAL puma! I have a house cat with six toes on each foot and the front look like mittens and the back snaowshoes...I named him Puma for having BIG paws!

Yikes! I wouldn't want to meet up with a live one. My cat scratches bad. That paw could do a lot of damage. Pretty scary looking!

Love Ya!
